If you suffer from unsightly cellulite, you are not alone. More than 80% of women experience the embarrassing skin dimpling and irregular contours caused by cellulite. Unfortunately, since cellulite is not a fat-related problem, it cannot be fully treated by traditional body-contouring procedures alone, such as liposuction.
Fortunately, Grossman | Capraro Plastic Surgery proudly offers VASERsmooth, a minimally-invasive procedure that reduces cellulite and creates a smoother, more contoured appearance.

What Is VASERsmooth?
VASERsmooth is the latest in cellulite treatment technology. Using ultrasonic energy, VASERsmooth breaks apart unwanted fat and the hardened fibrous bands beneath the skin that cause irregular puckering on nearly anywhere on your body, such as the:
While there is currently no “cure” for cellulite, VASERsmooth can improve the appearance of your cellulite by smoothing the dimpled, bumpy look caused by the condition. During your initial consultation at Grossman | Capraro Plastic Surgery, we will answer your questions and explain all of your treatment options.

Am I a Good Candidate for VASERsmooth Cellulite Reduction?
If you are unhappy with the appearance of cellulite, you are likely a good candidate for VASERsmooth treatment. The procedure is safe and effective on all complexions and skin types.
Generally speaking, you may be a good VASERsmooth candidate if you:
- Are in generally good health
- Are at or near your ideal weight
- Do not have a pre-existing medical condition that could lead to complications
- Have realistic expectations for your results
VASERsmooth is not a weight loss procedure, and not intended to be a replacement for a healthy lifestyle. The best way to know if VASERsmooth is right for you is to meet personally with one of our professional medical spa clinicians. During your initial consult, your condition will be evaluated and your candidacy for VASERsmooth and other potential treatments will be determined.
How Does VASERsmooth Work?
Unlike skin treatments, which only treat the surface of the problem, VASERsmooth treats the underlying cause beneath your skin. Cellulite is caused by fibrous bands that attach themselves to the underside of your skin and the tissue and muscle below. When the bands tug on your skin, they cause the dimpling or puckering that you see as cellulite.
VASERsmooth targets these fibrous bands. If you’ve tried skin treatments or weight loss to combat cellulite, you’ve probably noticed how inefficient they are. That’s because it’s the fibrous bands that are the culprit. VASERsmooth uses ultrasonic energy to break the bands and release your skin from those tethers.
During your treatment, our professional clinicians will numb the treatment area with a local anesthetic and inject a tumescent saline solution to fill the treated area and allow for easier dissolving of the fatty tissue with ultrasound energy. A small probe is used to emit the sound energy to liquefy fat and cut through the fibrous bands. The liquefied fat is removed through gentle suction.
How Long Does VASERsmooth Last?
VASERsmooth is a permanent solution for your cellulite. Unlike skin treatments, this technology actually destroys the fibrous bands and fat under your skin instead of smoothing them out temporarily. You will likely see immediate results from your procedure, but it may take three to six months for your final results to be apparent.
Recovery time depends on the number of treated areas and the amount of fat that you have removed. Most patients report minimal pain and bruising and are back to their regular exercise routine within two weeks of the procedure.
What Causes Cellulite?
Although cellulite tends to be more apparent in proportion to the amount of fat that exists in affected areas, the unsightly condition can be seen on even the thinnest people. This happens because while fat can exacerbate the appearance of cellulite, fat itself is not the primary cause.
Cellulite involves the fibrous connective tissue that connects the skin to the underlying muscle, with fat cells lying between. When fat cells accumulate and push through the connective tissue against the skin, the dimpled, uneven appearance of cellulite occurs.
Genetics, age, weight loss, and hormonal factors can also play a role in cellulite. Women tend to exhibit cellulite more frequently than men because men usually have a thicker layer of skin than women. There is also an association with women and cellulite based on the effect of estrogen hormones on the skin and soft tissues, although this link is not fully understood.
Tips for Avoiding Cellulite
Cellulite can occur even if you take good care of yourself. However, the following tips can reduce your chances of developing cellulite, or reducing its appearance once you notice it:
- Eat a healthy, balanced diet: A nutritious diet that includes plenty of vegetables and fruits can help you avoid becoming overweight and reduce inflammation in your body.
- Stay hydrated: Drinking plenty of water can help strengthen your body’s connective tissue.
- Exercise regularly: Even 20-30 minutes of exercise every day can help to prevent or reduce the appearance of cellulite. Certain yoga exercises target the buttocks and thighs. Strength training improves circulation and builds muscle.
- Maintain a healthy weight: When there is less fat beneath your skin, it is less likely to bulge out through your connective tissue.
